Suckage.

Work just flew by today. I got six surveys on the teen antismoking study in five hours of actual work, and quite a bit of that was spent drawing, so I feel pretty good about myself. I got a 15 minute break pass for my troubles. Darkside's classmate the supervisor did give me two chewings out for writing rather than sitting still and focusing on work like a good little clone. Apparently doodling is the only thing you can really do. So I doodled a few damn good sketches of Darkside, and one pencil drawing that I intend to work up into something better

If I had a car, I would be now on my way to earning twice or three times my present wage. Grr. A jump from 25 hours to 40, and from 8.50 to 13.00... ...ten miles away from home, off the bus system, and with hours running until 1 in the morning. Bugger, that's all I've got to say. Bugger.

Fnord? ...oh, right, wrong ficton.

Which Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy character are you?

My hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy character is the guide itself. I give out a lot of info that is mostly wildly unaccurate. My most useful advice is the two words printed on my cover: don't panic!

Isn't this just me?

<img src="http://test.thespark.com/person/pics/siaf.gif" Submissive Introvert Abstract Feeler Like just 12% of the population you are a DREAMER (SIAF)--reserved and imaginative. You are basically the shy, silent type. You don't have much interest in facts and figures or most of what's going on around you, but the internal worlds you build for yourself are rich and complex. Luckily, your creativity and strong heart mean you have a deep personality evident to anyone who gets to know you. It's just that not many people do, because most everyone thinks you're a loser. Talk to yourself less, other people more, little shaver. ...My personality type seems to have changed over the years. Odd, that. My intuitive side is coming out far more strongly.

ARRRGH!!

(Grr.)

"Are you working today?"
"No."
"When do you get out of class?"
"One."
"That's the same time I get out of class. ...Too bad I have to pick up my paycheck."

Stop teasing me like that, dammit!!!

Alarm Clock

I actually woke up before my alarm clock woke me up, this morning. I went to bed around 1-ish. (Today is my day off.) I woke up when Adam came to bed. Noticing that it was 5, I snuggled for a bit, then got up, got dressed, and came to school.

...Adam is now a morning student. I worry.

copy from comment: Kindergarten

Hmm, I wonder how I would have been if our Montessori had supported anything beyond preschool level...

...I did official Kindergarten homeschool with my mother, and therefore missed out on the semi-structured playtime with other kids aspect of things, which severely sucked for me. I held a grudge against her for that for a long time, which was one reason I didn't get more into home study in high school...

Of course, circumstances were that she couldn't have done the transportation thing on time for both myself and my sister, but I still feel that if she'd known how very important it was to me, she could have tried...

Ack. Bitter memories. I fairly much like who I am now, but I was always resentful that my little sister got to have the true kindergarten experience while I did not.

First Time

Never took a system completely apart before today. I'm not half so intimidated when I know here's the motherboard, video card, processor, RAM, power supply, network card, plugs for lights and power and reset and speaker...

We powered up the system first. Keyboard error and no OS; all well and good. I was partnered with Hari, who's done all this before. He'd forgotten his computer kit, so I wore my grounding strap (I may have to upgrade to something that definitely won't do Bad Things to my skin) and dove right in. We took it apart, cleaned it (not very dirty, as these computers are shredded to bits and put back together by students every tri) and put it back together in approximately the same configuration as it was before. In doing so, we discovered that the zip drive was getting no power, and that there were not enough in the way of screws to go around.

I had to strip my rings and keep my hair tied up and back out of the way so it wouldn't get caught in anything. I intend to design a Geek Chic grounding strap for myself, something handy, sturdy, and good-looking enough to potentially pass as a fashion statement if worn outside of lab. There's no reason electrical safety needn't look good...

After it was all screwed back together, and Hari helped me figure out how to properly use my bendyratchet from the tool kit, we plugged it back in and started it up...

...Same keyboard error and no OS.

We rock.

Manifesto 15

Premise: all of his previous manifestoes have been flops. This is his last, best chance to become a bitter psycho who writes manifestoes. He'd damn well better get it right.

Wow, you're like such a slut... now bend over for this prince of all saiyajins... O.o

Perhaps this is one bit of silliness I should share with Darkside. He and Bald Guy have been doing a lot of DBZ conversation lately.
