And yeah, I bet the side effects would have been much less fun. When I was reading up on the possible procedures, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to have external beam. (My doctor had to get additional details from the surgeon about how far down into the cervix the tumor had invaded. Turned out it wasn't far enough that she was super worried.) My virtual aunt (no genetic or marital connection) had uterine cancer and both treatments, and in the time and location she had the brachytherapy (Anchorage, Alaska; while living in Fairbanks some 300+ miles away) it involved 72 hours of remaining very still as apparently the cylinder was in place continuously during that time.

On the whole it was pretty great as medical procedures go, except for being scared.

When I learned it was cancer and I'd need radiotherapy, I referenced you as a subtle way of letting anyone in #lj_s know what I was about to go through:
