A portrait of the Lunatic at ten

Imagine one of those scratch pads -- the kind that had the black coating on top, and you scratched it away to reveal a color underneath. OK, now imagine that the color underneath is not one color, but interesting rectangular patches of different colors. Now imagine that all the colors underneath are neon. Now make a pseudo-tribal pattern all over this. Got it? Great.

Now make this into fabric, and make that fabric into pants. Like bellbottoms, in a way, only that big all over. Add suspenders for good measure.

Wear it with a screaming pink shirt, too much makeup, and badly curled hair.

Death of pet hen more important than world-shaking war. From tiny blue binder.

Sun, Jan 27, 1991

Aurora has died? Rurrie has been a constant companion, and very good. The Middle East thing has been going on 16 days. Miss A. Fayoumis is dead. I am very sad, and I have shed at least 50 gallons of tears for my poor hen.

Third day of Gulf War. Children in predictable turmoil. (From tiny blue binder)

Jan. 18, 1991
The third day. I wonder when ever the war will be over. The war seems so unreal and hazy compared with the everyday hardships and things. [Ginger] left for Mexico last night. She won't be back until next Friday--a week from today. We are having dinner at [family name of [livejournal.com profile] swallowtayle's popular friend with the long red hair]'. I hope it will be fun. I hope that at school, BJ and John and Amy will not bother me, especially about my hat. When will the war be over?
Well, the dinner was a success. We put on a R, W, & B Club thing. Talk about fun! I will stay up until Saturday, I think. It is now 11:06 PM. This book is hard to write in. [Red-headed friend] has quite the kitchen. 11:09?

From the tiny blue binder: Gulf War begins

Wed, Jan 16, 1991
Dear Diary,
I can't believe it is me! I feel wooden and plastic and unreal. Pres. Bush has all but declared war on Iraq. I hope Jon, my cousin who is in the navy, will not go into service. If he is injured or worse...
I don't know...
I was sort of bored at school today with the usual chatter. After school I found out. At school, I thought it would be days. Oh, I hope Jay doesn't go into service. But he is too young, only twelve. I'm glad of that. I hope all ends well. Kerry, the gloomy foreteller, predicted that they would cream us. He predicts..."They have more troops, more tanks, more everything except airpower." Oh, what would I give fore some perfect peace. [Ginger], [livejournal.com profile] swallowtayle, and I have started a club named The Red, White, and Blue club. We hope it will be a peaceful success...
I wonder what tomorrow and more tomorrows will bring. I hope our friends and relatives will be safe.
