Fall, winter. (from a comment)
Your garden-variety full-spectrum lights were too sissy for my father, so he went to Sam's Club and bought himself a nice sturdy construction lamp, and set it up facing the couch. For an hour each morning while eating breakfast, drinking coffee, and lounging on the couch before work, and all morning on Sundays, he'd sit on the couch in front of the light, soaking up rays. It was delightful and warm and a great place to curl up with a book.
There's also a list of delightful fruits and vegetables to eat to help combat SAD, but regretfully, bananas and walnuts, which head the list, are impossible for me to eat and maintain the lining of my mouth.
My favorite part of fall back home was wasp-stomping. Around about the time of year when the birch trees were turning, the wasps would be sluggish, lying in the road as I walked home, trying to absorb heat. Narcissa and I used to compete to see who could stomp on the most wasps.

It makes me sad.
Now I'm homesick for the bay area, or Oregon, or somewhere that has more interesting weather. Kim would say that's still not weather, but it's more weather and it's what I'm used to. It's kind of hard to miss the first snow of the year when you live somewhere that the exciting thing is the first rainy windy but alas not thundery storm thing of the year instead.

Clear blue skies and a birch forest all golden and silver...

dammit, fairbanks has snow. I want snow and cold. I'm still running around in t-shirts because it's in the forties.

They got three feet. Narcissa was a bit mad.
I love the look of a snow-covered birch forest. I live up in the hills behind UAF, within a reasonable walk of the Muskox Farm the back way through the trails, so I'm used to that...
