Evidently the old bat skirted around making any sort of committing statement either way, which means that she's very much against it, but doesn't want to piss her daughter off (my interpretation). Votania is sure that her bringing up the issue is going to make her mother absolutely certain that Votania and I are a couple. Or at least were a couple.
