a little bit bigger (mondegreen)
So one of the songs that the kids these days are listening to -- wait, I'm not old enough to say that? I'm listening to it on my own? -- Well then. One of the songs getting commercial radio airplay, then, is "It's Time", by Imagine Dragons.
I had given the song not much of a detailed thought. It had a fun bouncy sound, which sounds a bit like hammered dulcimer or some similar impact-on-strings instrument, unless I entirely miss my guess. Then at a red light the chorus came on, and I had a few spare brain cycles to try to make words out of the audio, and this is what I heard:
I nearly snorted coke out my nose. I could absolutely not believe it. I mean, all sorts of amazing things get written, and get airplay, but ... usually at rush hour it's a little more subtle!
Sadly, as these things often go, the internet provided lyrics that were not obscene at all.
My version still makes me wonder about the characters who have started attaching themselves to it, though, and whether or not I know them. I think I'll keep them around a while.
