Icon Happiness

One of the things about my previous journal style that had always been bugging me was the icons. Specifically, I wanted to see icons on my posts just like I saw them on my friends page.

With this style, I do! Yay! I'm happy-happy.

I'm also delighted because I am starting to recognize that the whole % thing in the overrides bit is probably server-side scripting, and that I can totally start to dig now.

I really do need some form of geeky-me usericon. *sigh* But I don't want to give any of these icons up! They're all so lovely and useful!

I'd meant to take this time I have now to figure out S2 and write my own style.

I've long wanted to have my icon with each post, and was glad to see that feature in S2.

Of course, S2 is just a /tad/ complicated. (It's basically a limited programming language.)

About this particular icon... I don't remember having noticed you explicicating it, so I ask: Do you have any Swedishness in your background?

Not that I know of in mine, but that was for the celebration with the visiting professor from Sweden.

My sister was standing gleefully by with a bucket of water lest the candles catch my hair on fire.

Mama's family has roots in Finland, though.

::gasp:: How'd you do that? I briefly experimented with S2, and while I loved the new style, I hated that I couldn't figure out how to fuss with it, like change the way the date is formatted, or remove the "User:" thing and such, much less stuff my user icon next to the post!

Damn eet. And maybe it's just me, but S2 seems like it's harder to create new styles. I'd love to port over my friends list style, but after reading the S2 docs, my eyes glazed over and my brain shut down. And don't get me started on how one can't have a different friends page style than their main journal. ::shakes fist::

The style name is "component", one of the brand-new S2 styles.

Because it's hard to have different handwritings on LJ, which is how things work out in a paper journal.

Ah. That clarifies it - a bit. I've been under the impression that Lucia-celebration is more or less unknown outside the Swedish-speaking population.

It's somewhat more common in the pagan communities.

After learning about the custom, my father saw that there were at least mild observances of it in our household.
