I describe Alaskan rosebushes to [profile] marxdarx:

[livejournal.com profile] marxdarx spent a decent portion of his formative years here in Arizona. So he was not overly concerned about hearing that my father had rolled through some rosebushes.

"They're Alaska's answer to cactus. Think a teddybear cactus with a haircut. OK, a balding teddybear cactus with a buzzcut."

He winced.

I am learning to weed. Thistles and blackberries both hurt no matter how I grasp them, even the flats of the leaves. Blackberries have thorny roots. Thistles leave their thorns as splinters in my skin. I am beginning to hate the evolutionary development known as the thorn.

The first time I did this I thought about gloves, then decided I didn't want to figure out how to get them and could do just fine without them. Then I went through the same thought process for long sleeves, for long pants, and for shoes.

I think I'm rather better at stubborn than I am at wise. :))

In many ways, stubborn is better for me than cautious right now. I came out of that weeding session (and a few other similarly garbed ones) with surprisingly few prickles and a few more "awareness of environment" experience points.
