From the Bar of the Lunatic (with the help of [profile] shywickedpixie): Butterbeer

So last night [livejournal.com profile] shywickedpixie and I were talking, as usual, and she mentioned [livejournal.com profile] wiseheron's recipe for pumpkin juice, and that suddenly got me going off on a tangent.

I came up with a recipe for butterbeer.

Butterbeer, a la Harry Potter, is buttery and sweet and not very alcoholic. Hmm, I thought... Cream soda and butterscotch schapps.

And so it happened.

The golden formula is about 1 12-oz can of cream soda, and 1/2 shot of butterscotch schnapps (or a whole one, depending).

Mmmm.

yummmmmmm....that sounds so good!

But didn't they drink it warm??

Or maybe I'm wrong.

Still sounds good though, I'll have to give it a shot.

I think someone was right when they said they drank it warm, which lead me to thinking of doing it like buttered rum only buttered butterscotch scnapps...

(recipe for buttered rum. Take 1/2 gallon of really premium ice cream, put in blender with 1 to 2 cups of brown sugar and a whole stick (i've tried it with two sticks, it was doable but might be a bit much for some) of butter. Blend. Put back in carton to refreeze. To serve, dig out one goodly sized scoop, plop into a big grog mum with a shot(or two) of rum and hot water, stir thoroughly. Arrrr)

DAMNIT...I need to go buy buttered rum supplies. I think I'm going to knock off the pain meds for a fw days and just fucking drink booze. Anyting is worth a try at this point.

Hee...gotta get pumpkins too, gonna make pumpkin juice. Drat you Az for starting this train of thought, this time of year is always dangerous for me 'cause my inner comfort food fiend shows up wanting to get good and nested for Winter!

oh, pumpkin juice ala hogwarts, or at least as best as I can guess they make it...Haven't actually tried it yet, but am definitely going to do this:

I have a vegetable juicer, so I would just run pieces of baking pumpkin (smaller pumpkins, with the rind peeled off the and the seeds not on)through it and pull the puree for bread or something later and take the juice and add allspice, cinnamin and lots of clove to it, serve it chilled. Maybe some kind of sweetener, molasses, Just a tad. Or I bet mixing it 2/3 to 1 with apple juice or cider would be really kick ass.

Damnit, I'm making myself really hungry and thirsty here.

If you can't access a juicer you could probably pulverize small pieces of pumpkin in a blender, dump the pulp in a sieve or colander and press out the juice and go from there. Once you have all the juice you need add the spices and sweetener and frappe the crap out of it.

Another pumpkiny goodness....you could take that pulp from making the juice and put in a pie shell with some finely diced apples, about 50/50 mix, some raisins, brown sugar, cinnamin, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, ginger...maybe a lashing of rum and a little apple juice so it doesn't get to dry, a few chunks of butter and bake it. Pumpkin apple pie....it's a variation of wehani, which is a stuffed pumpkin with all that good stuff in it.

I had pumpkin-spice pancakes at IHOP yesterday... yum.

But now reading this has made me rabid for more pumpkin-y goodness! I'm going to adapt my pumpkin bread recipe and make some muffins.... TONIGHT.

You guys are evil... bad, bad, Rhi and Azz.
