Got the laundry done. Yay, me. Putting it away can wait. I'm planning on wearing the nice new slacks for the plane trip, and also for the concert. Sparkly shirt, whee! Should also pack skirt and shorts, and wear black T-shirt on plane.

Chapter 5 is now read.

Have rediscovered my favorite physical position for studying: kneeling on the floor next to my bed, leaned over on bed, hugging a pillow. Not the most elegant of positions, but minimizing distraction and minimizing fall-asleep potential.

shywickedpixie's friend with the pirate flag usericon says it's likely that what I have is an actual metal allergy rather than just a bad set of piercings. However, I would like to get my ears repierced at some point. After I get that new job, I suppose.

My LAN is on crack. The cable is not physically unplugged, but it keeps saying it is. This is not a good thing. I do not know what is causing it, and I am too lazy to find out.

Niobium is your friend. :-) I don't know if they make piercing earrings out of it, though. Perhaps gold. I know they make those, and they tend to be pretty darn safe.

Titanium is what currently works. My ears are happy with me.

Sadly, I lost one of my little titanium stud earrings when the wind and my hat pulled it out. I was angry. I need to get another pair, but they're $14.

Gold is not necessarily a good choice for piercings. Most piercing stock is 14K, and pure gold is 24K. That means that roughly half of what's in 14K gold is NOT gold, and could be anything at all. 14K white gold, for example, is generally made with huge amounts of nickel, one of the most allergenic metals around. The yellows may well have some, too, depending on the alloy- and since alloying formulas are proprietary and kept secret, you really have no idea unless you buy stock from a trusted refiner and they vow that it's not allergenic. Hoover & Strong, for example, has a 14K yellow alloy that's good for piercings, or so they say.

But in general, don't count on a gold alloy being Ok, and white gold almost certainly is NOT.

Have you checked the wire and plug? If the plug or wire are damaged (or some crud was in the socket when you plugged it in) you could be getting no connection. Heck, a CAT-5 cable can be severed just by stepping on it . . . if you do it right.
