As shywickedpixie pondered, predators make somewhat scary pets.

I sit down at the computer with a nice plate of something, and I'm suddenly surrounded by a small glaring of domesticated panthers, wondering if I'm going to share with them. Eris isn't all that civilized... in fact, she's just shy of feral.

Hungry, hungry beasts, even though they are well-fed.


(And yes ... I loves my panther, yes I do, especially when she snuggles up and purrs.)

There's a really disturbing story I only vaguely remember. The framing story is about the main character giving up her true love, because the TL is better off with her internal history rolled back to before she did the terrible thing, but TL minus terrible thing isn't the sort of person who can be in love with MC. The bit that really stuck with me was the terrible thing, which was leaving her infant son (under only sort of extenuating circumstances I'm not remembering) alone with the starving family dog. Through either psi powers or a vivid guilt sense (again with the vague memories), she has vivid memory-sense-dream-things of his death.

Where is "a murder of crows" or "an unkindness of ravens"? Those are my favorites! Though "a congress of baboons" is pretty damn funny under the circumstances. (No offense to baboons intended.)
