Though not everyone who IMs strangers asking to chat is a fool. :recalls earlier days: I've never been one to IM strangers, but I've often deliberately made myself available for such, because textual conversation with a stranger is more interaction than no conversation at all.
Once, when I was a kid, I would deliberately call wrong numbers just to hear someone else's voice. I forget how old I was. Too young to be feeling that way.
It's not always caused by being that much of a loser.
