Red Squirrel is endangered there, huh? Maybe they want to import some of the bloody pine-rats from Alaska. I'm sure Alaska will send them with their blessings.

The red in endangered because of greys - which aren't native to the UK. They managed to come over from the Americas then they started out-breeding the reds.

Which is a pity, because the reds look much nicer.

Gray squirrels are all fat and lumpy and look dumb. Red squirrels are cute and bright and ... really damn obnoxious.

And if gray squirrels are a problem, then if they're not parasite-riddled and often poisoned, then they sound like decent eating...

Any bitterness you may detect towards squirrels from me comes of having had squirrels in my attic while I was trying to sleep, squirrels chewing on my father's seatbelt, squirrels stealing fiberglass insulation and leaving it all over, squirrels eating seeds from the bird feeder and scaring off all the chickadees, and my father going on and on at length about squirrels.
