Things about work:

--six interviews on the recruitment for the panel (!!!) (typical is 0-3 interviews)
--a break card IOU from the Quiet Geek Super (see above outstanding performance)
--singing TMBG in the break room
--talking with an 81-year-old man whose life philosophy was that it's all one big joke (just the person I needed to talk to today)

Evidently my "I am professional and enunciating very clearly" voice comes across as some variety of English accent. I demonstrated for [livejournal.com profile] marxdarx at home, and (much to my amazement) realized that yes, I had indeed heard that same enunciation as an accent before -- the very precise and lovely speech of Mrs. W (I think they're divorced or separated now, sadly) from the Friends community back home. An authentic speaker would probably be able to tell my precision from an actual English accent, but it's definitely nice to be able to place the precise reason why some people on the phones tell me that I sound like I'm European.
