• Before and after cooking on the stove, clean the metal catch-tray under each burner.

Fire's out. We're all OK, not even a mild case of smoke inhalation (though I am feeling sneezy). Fire extinguisher is back in its case, with not much damage done (some metal will have to be replaced or re-welded, but no glass shards) without having to use it. Next time, remember to cover all burners for air intake: they're all connected. Plates will work, besides pan lids.
