I'd say "celebrates" rather than "abuses", because it's not particularly implying that everyone is like that; it's just following a group who happen to be. A fine line, but I find a vast difference between incisively and warmly painting a caricature and displaying a caricature as being representative of the whole.
Now, those "reality shows" that pick out the craziest representatives of a fringe group and go deep into the crazy nooks and crannies of their lives and represent what they're doing as "the life of a $CLASS" -- now that's abuse.
And they did make that all-important distinction -- the one between transvestite, transgendered, boy in a dress, and Drag Queen. JD? Boy in a dress.
