Is it just me, or do HP fics that involve a character who has been steeped in magic for all of their life losing memories and also not remembering magic irritate you? Granted some magic is going to be the kind where you have to remember exactly what you're doing in order to do it, but SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN AROUND MAGIC ALL THEIR LIVES IS NOT GOING TO SUDDENLY "REVERT" TO THE ZOMG IT IS MAGIC STATE THAT A MUGGLE-RAISED PERSON WOULD BE IN.

The character is walking, talking, and lacing up their own shoes, ffs.

I could see them maybe being startled at larger, more showy acts of magic, but not the everyday stuff, not if they're still walking, talking, tying their shoies

I can kinda see them revert to the "magic is something grown-ups do, like reading and having a job, and one day I'll be able to", but even then, you would still be aware, to some extent, of what the grown-ups around you can do, which includes magic. However, I can sort of see magic not standing out as something separate until you find out about Muggles - but when that happens, the ZOMG-worthy concept isn't magic, it's its absence.

Oh, argh! No, a person is not going to forget one of the 'givens' in their world - a person raised in the magical world is not more going to forget magic exists than a person raised in the muggle world would forget that MACHINES existed.

I can see forgetting that you're a werewolf, if that happened when you were older - even 6 or 7. But... not MAGIC, no.
