This won't help you today, but...you know about slipper socks, right? You can wear them under shoes. And sometimes when climatic or emotional necessity exists, I do.

I have some nice fuzzy blue socks that I should probably wear today.

Though "slipper socks", in my dictionary, was always slippers with cuffs that covered the ankle.

... and now my mind is happily digressing about Dad's favorite slippers, which were a cut-down pair of old winter boots. This was a plot on the part of the rest of the family, headed up by me, to have him not wear zoris or bare feet out in the snow so often.

I had a boss who let you know you were part of the in-group at the center by issuing you fuzzy slippers. They were against the dresscode, but if you were part of that group, the dresscode didn't quite matter so much.
