Yeah, kids are often smarter or better informed than adults think they are. I'm not sure where the right balance between {giving enough information that the kid knows what's going on and that the adult's trustworthy/reasonable} and not giving so much information that you're bogged down in nitpicking all the time. I suspect part of the answer is teaching kids when and how to nitpick.
