*grin* My three-year-old daughter told me yesterday that our dishwasher feels guilty because it isn't working properly. I told her it wasn't the dishwasher's fault and that we weren't angry with it.
(It's the designers' fault: they've designed it so large pots and pans can only go in one particular place, but if you put them there, they cover the heating element, which then tends to overheat and turn itself off. Especially on the highest-temperature cycle, which of course I only ever want to use if I have to wash either glassware or, you've guessed it, pots and pans...)
I've given up using the dishwasher for anything but soap-and-rinse-and-sterilize, because it doesn't really get off bits of food stuck to things very well.
The things kids say... :) makes you look at the world a different way.

I lean towards animism myself, but more often with computers and electronics than other household equipment.
