I am so, so sorry you both had to go through that. :( :(
I am glad it went better than it could have. <3 <3

Reading this reminded me of the time I had to leave a verbally/emotionally/physically abusive ex with almost no support. (I'd moved to a new city, and did not have an adequate support network. Some "Friends" that I explicitly told how bad things were either did not believe me or did not understand, or they willfully turned a blind eye.)
It was utter hell, and I stayed in a very very VERY bad relationship for four years longer than I would have, if I had had support to move out.
That four years had long term repercussions on my mental and physical health - PTSD, Anxiety, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome - and my career.
Had I been able to move out earlier, I might not need a power wheelchair to get around now.

My ex refused to allow cardboard boxes to be in the kitchen/dining room/lounge room.
He threatened to put all my belongings on the street while I was at work.
He deliberately delayed me getting in the fully loaded moving van while the meter was ticking at $180/hour.
He threatened to charge me rent for every day between when I moved out and when the cardboard boxes in the recycling bin were collected by the council. "Because if you've left rubbish in the bin you're still technically living here."
