10 years makes a decade!
New year! New 3rd digit on the year!
I feel like a proper sum-up of the past 10 years would be completely impossible. Some major bits:
2009:
I had just moved to California at the tail end of December 2008. Moved out of my aunt's couch and into a studio apartment.
Dreamwidth launched! Amazing!
I had been fairly committed to not becoming a parent, but June 2009 would change that forever. I met Ev online, and gradually became the trustworthy adult in the room.
Fishparenting would soak up a lot of my time in 2009-2011.
So would depression, anxiety, and sinus + lung infections. My respiration was improved vs. Alaska, but that didn't mean much.
2011:
I went to
ursamajor's wedding and sat at the Internet People table.
I landed an interview in which there was much giggling and talking about yarn.
2012:
New job, with "Virtual Hammer", 2012-2016. I met many amazing friends and did things and learned a lot. I met Purple, helped make 3 amazing conferences happen, and was part of an incredible group fighting the good fight against terrible technology and the people who have sunk costs in it.
2013:
Infections from hell, ugh. I'm pretty sure one of them was flesh-eating. I survived both.
Kiddo got the nerve to tell her teacher the truth about what was going on at home. This kicked off a chain of events that culminated in her spending the summer in a youth shelter on a 30 day hold that kept getting renewed. We finally met in person.
2014:
Kiddo's senior year of high school finished. The youth shelter meant she could apply as an independent student, and got a scholarship. She started college in the fall.
Open Source Bridge!
Goodbye and good riddance to DOMA.
2015:
Open Source Bridge!!
Met the artist soon to be known as Belovedest in person, by accident.
Got my ducks in a row about doctors, with some new diagnoses and prescriptions.
Kiddo started Sophomore year
2016:
Job at Virtual Hammer ended.
Open Source Bridge!
Declared my feelings to the artist soon to be known as Belovedest.
Had a few organs removed (cancer).
Had my bits irradiated gently (same).
Joined together with some friends to help support Belovedest in getting extracted from an abusive partner.
Kiddo started junior year
2017:
Helped Belovedest abscond with Yellface when the home situation with their abusive ex became intolerable.
Spent a week with Belovedest to see how we worked in person, relationship-wise.
Moved to Seattle, in one car and a moving pod.
Helped Belovedest render their house habitable again.
Open Source Bridge, together.
Moved in with Belovedest (unloading the moving pod).
Kiddo started senior year.
Goodbye to Vash, my faithful car.
Visited Belovedest's family in Michigan.
Important polycule bond dissolved.
2018:
Got a temp job with the Red Borg.
Kiddo graduated with honors and moved to San Diego for a new job.
Final Open Source Bridge.
Moat installed in basement.
Alex moved in with Murderface.
Adventures in car ownership.
Visit from Steph ♦️♦️♦️
2019:
Opened year by breaking foot in a sex swing accident (trip hazard while doing something else)
Further adventures in car ownership.
Red Borg job ended in March.
Spent April mostly asleep.
Spent May getting 2nd new-used car (long story) street legal.
Entire household with nasty cold for first half of June, obliterating my birthday.
Ev interviewing in Seattle and visiting.
Ev adopted Meow Meow!
Ev accepted job & moved to Kirkland, via the media room.
And that pretty much gets us up to date.

Glad you're here. Are you pondering "I survived the sex swing event of 2019" merch?
