Today I saw a Craigslisting for the specific bookshelf that I envisioned for under Screen B, a 2x4 Kallax. Off we zoomed, in my Toaster on account of it was the least recently driven and also had a full-ish tank of gas. I figured that if the thing was too long for the back, strictly speaking, we'd lean the front passenger seat forward and I'd hop into the rear on the driver's side and let Belovedest drive back (on account of their long legs). The ad said Redmond, so I was expecting a trip up 520, but instead it was just down the street east of the Kirkland Costco.
Belovedest suggested that they could be crumpled up in the front, and got into a pretzel of a position, helped with the padding of my fleece coat. This lasted a few miles, at which point we started thinking about an exit. We got through the downtown Bellevue morass and then found a convenient mostly-empty parking lot to rearrange the car. Belovedest got their leg space and I was cozy in the back seat with my fleece. It was, of course, raining.
We're going to wait until it's lighter and less rainy outside to unload.
... How*ever*, having looked up the dimensions and done some measuring, it looks like we're going to need an alternative place for it. I've suggested to replace the wire cubes and janky little cube shelf, next to the file cabinet.
Also today: the yearly filing of Belovedest's too-complex-for-calendars schedule in the household calendar. My erstwhile Overlady warned me, early in our friendship, that repeating elements running longer than a year were fragile and it was best to set up a new appointment yearly. So that's how I do Belovedest's work schedule.
"First Sunday of the month" is an instruction that calendars can interpret. "First Sunday of the month, and the day before" gets... tricky. Humans get it, generally. It's either the last Saturday of the month (when the next month starts on Sunday), or the first Saturday of the new month (when the new month starts any other day than Sunday). And then when Belovedest is working a weekend, the Friday before the weekend and the Monday after the weekend are days off. But Sunday is a short workday, and Belovedest is hourly, so to make up for the short hours, they oversee an extra hour in the ball pit on the following Tuesday and Wednesday. So it takes a little while to do the schedule, and I have to ask about it each time.
Games:
Gems of War is going along well; I finished the weekly campaign on Monday, since it didn't have any double dungeon or triple Adventure Board gotchas in it. Guild remains God Tier. Guild leader (who is not a DW friend, dunno if they have a DW at all) is out for a while because death in the family (two, yikes). There's been an ad for a zombie game that makes me grit my teeth a little whenever I see it because it has too many dog whistles for me to be comfortable around it.
Since we have an overstock on souls (1,643,157 at the moment) we have very little use for the Orbs of Growth so I'm happy to report that they can now be exchanged for Lesser Treasure (rings) and Greater Treasure (crowns) as well as used to craft orbs of power. And there was a new million-soul weapon a while back: Duskbringer, to complement Dawnbringer with the other side of the magic spectrum.
Fiber arts:
Crocheting: got some of the lace garment worked on over Christmas while doing video chats.
Quilting:
I owe Ev a quilt. Two. One's the salvage and rescue operation on her original baby quilt, and one is a new baby quilt from me as her foster parent.
Mini quilt: pieced together as of the other day, using the fleece that I don't like the color of instead of batting because I have NFI where the batting is. The existing coil of braid is tacked on, and I was adding more but then it was time to come back upstairs. Didn't touch it today, and I'm feeling slightly guilty.
Larger quilt: proud of the design process: I counted the squares, stacked them, photographed them, unskewed the squares and cropped, shrunk them for transport, got them onto my main computer via email to self, put them in the "quilting design program" (Excel), duplicated the images to have the correct number of squares so I didn't need to keep track of them, made a clone of that sheet. Then I fucked around with them until I got a pattern I liked. The other day when I was downstairs I stacked them in the correct order. Next I'll probably deal them out into their columns and sew them; I'm going to have the basic unit being the longways column because if it's slightly off in alignment that's the direction it won't be a disaster.
Photography: nothing happening until the new year and then it depends on shipping time. (Postal service is still fucked due to those motherfuckers.)
Health: bloodwork due, scheduled for Thursday morning; checkup coming next week (thus the bloodwork). Done with this series of dental shenanigans.
Media:
Books:
Slogging through some Lord John stuff. It's absolutely my brain not wanting to cooperate and focus on one thing for more than about thirty seconds.
armaina had posted a graphic about stages of Even Coping, and I'm not doing too great.
Music: I'm back on my bullshit, but am not currently listening to "Mr. Capgras Encounters a Secondhand Vanity" on repeat every second of the day. (Thanks to
carrie's kid Al, I have discovered Will Wood and the Tapeworms, and YUP. I have returned the favor by telling Outliers Georg.)
Podcasts: yes? Except between one thing and another my poor little ipod is backed up and nearly out of space and I'm about a year behind. Occasionally I listen to the Full Speed Ahead list and run it out of things, and the 47 Hour News Cycle, but even listening at 1.5x will not get me caught up. Fortunately it's mostly a way to keep my brain from eating itself while I do manual tasks? Including gemsing, if I manage to get my ducks in the correct order to have the thing charged and the headphones at the same time I'm doing clickygems. That seems like Too Much some days.
Relationships: Belovedest is still my matesprit, Steph my morail, Nora auspistice, and we don't speak of Shawn (humans don't ♠ very well). Been lots of chatter about Things With Steph, because their work got Interesting twice over, this year. Steph still has vague plans to relocate to WA state in the next half-decade, exact date TBD and Depending On Things. Metamours (via Steph) are on the mend from The Corvids; they had that over Thanksgivingish on account of Penny's work, probably.
kaberett often has such tidy categories, but the thing about that sort of thing is, if you haven't been writing except for little bits and pieces here and there, there's sometimes a lot of catchup to do to even draw a picture of the current place. I'm reminded of the old-style video that if you grab it before it's fully ready, you just get a blank black background and then a dot here and there as some pixels have changed from the original state to something new. Actually painting in the full background takes a lot, even if you're not trying to catch up on the full history from when you last left off.

I have the same problem.

Fortunately, I don't have to read myself.
(One of my if-there-is-a-multiverse-of-infinite-diversity-in-infinite-combinations beliefs is that I am, in fact, a novel. Occasionally I converse with my characters and counterparts.)
