Dad's memorial will probably be postponed, then. (Or canceled, but I do want to go to the state and see people.)

Seattle Metro, light rail, AND local Lyft and Uber drivers are all dropping their mask requirements too! For staff and passengers! All the local stores are dropping it too.

I'm angrily looking at powered helmet respirators, mostly angrily and less thinking I'll actually buy one, but extremely angrily.

I'm honestly worried about the hospital system coming close to collapsing, because of all the long-term health care we're supposed to have (HAHAHAHAA) for various chronic illnesses, not to mention WTF is going to happen to all the new chronically ill people with long covid or other complications. Maybe I'm just freaking out, but the lack of support for, or even thought for, the health care workers who are going to have to try to take care of everyone is terrifying.

It's maddening how society is ignoring reality (there are countries seeing surges of new variants still!), especially because the move to drop all precautions affects immunocompromised and vulnerable populations the most.

Update on the respirators: I now have a modified half-face respirator that I can drink through, given a compatible straw. I figured out where to drill a hole, what size of hole to drill. I got a little bag of silicone gaskets with plugs that are intended to go in metal canning jar lids, but which go nicely in drilled plastic masks, and figured out what kind of straw makes a reasonable seal while reaching my mouth securely.
