So Nora and I were talking just after Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, and we were thinking about what Biden should be doing now that his presidency is in its YOLO phase. (I much prefer that to "lame duck".) And Nora reflected that if he doesn't pardon Hunter, at least, what's he even doing? And he should be able to do at least a little criming, now that it's legal...

A thought struck me.

"It should be a tradition," I said, between giggles. "Anything of questionable morality that an outgoing President wants to do, any criming -- the 6th. Biden should pardon his son on January 6th, 2025. Just as an additional middle finger to that guy."

One tiny problem with this: Biden is an honorable guy.. and would never do it.

Well... he is about to do a bunch of reforming of the Supreme Court, and appoint a load of judges. Plus Trump-proofing (which is kinda like toddler-proofing) reinstatement of abortion rights and debt relief.

So, it's not like he isn't taking advantage of the opportunity.

I'd be OK with celebrating Jan 6 as "Hunter Biden's Hog" Day or something. Y'know, since the Rs were so determined to make sure we'd all seen it. Let's officially look at it.

That would certainly be an interesting tradition to start. Petty revenge and such things, not like what the original was, but to mock and spite the one who tried to do something terrible.

I love the idea, but I'd be concerned about the precedent. I mean, do you want The Purge? Because that's how you get The Purge.

With the precedent the Cheeto set, I figure the only sensible direction left is up, though I will grant you that the party of the Cheeto does not do sensible.

Or just mark it as Insurrection Day, celebrating the day an attempt to overthrow American democracy was thwarted.
