shadesong, stronae, the book you wanted to know about is Basic Sigil Magic, by Phillip Cooper.

It has Echo's disrecommendation, because it evidently says very little new about the subject, but from my perspective, it's a very nice basic manual on the concept, a book that will eventually be grown out of and passed on to the next beginner.

Hmm... I'll have to look through my library. I have at least one or two books by this man, and the name has stuck with me, so he's either pretty good or a total flake, and at the moment I have no idea which; I haven't been reading Ceremonial stuff lately.

This feels like the slightly more chaos (mathe)magic side of things... but yeah, strong ceremonial influences.

I happen to disagree with some of this guy's feelings about magical color, though. Some of his ideas of color correspondances are right on with mine; some are so incredibly way off with me.

Everybody needs to come up with the list of things that each color means to them, or which color a particular thing has an association with for them, or things start getting muddled and messed.

For example, I associate pink with air. Why? Because of the sunset and the sunrise. I think of that as with air. It works for me.... and probably not for very many other people. This guy's associations for orange were completely off for me. I can vaguely see why he did it that way, but it's so not my style; I'll stick to my own, thanks.

And I completely disagree with his interpretation of Pratchett.
