President Bush just spoke. According to him, the program will go on. It's good to know that he has faith in it.

I'm always surprised anyone would want to stop or put the space program on hold after an accident. I mean they have a very good safety record considering people are going up into space and coming back down... All travel has danger...Space travel is dangerous... I mean no air outside your little fishtank in the heavens... People are bound to die as we explore space...

It's still safer than I ever expected it to be. 2 crashes in my lifetime..that's 30 years... Pretty good record.

I'm old enough to remember Challenger. I grew up on space books. Mama got me the autobiography of Mike Collins, the guy who didn't walk on the moon...

And then I was old enough to read Asimov and Heinlein. I was *used* to the idea that astronauts died for space, as much as little Christian children are used to the idea that Jesus died for their sins.
