I prefer to get the full HTML because I find it easy to reply from the email that way. I also associate a lot of my lj friends not by their username, but by their usericons.
and easier to respond to. If I didn't get notification, I'd never know I had comments and since I use LJ to communicate with a friend, this is important so we can carry on an actual dialogue at times.
I like seeing the way they typed in the formatting, because some people put in joke tags, and I get more out of the comment by seeing both what they actually typed in and how the browser interprets it.
Also, I like being able to choose the userpic I respond with by going to the page.
For my secondary journals, I have them get HTML notifications, because it automatically responds as them no matter who I'm logged in as.
I view comments as HTML since I like to be able to reply from the email client (this doesn't seem to work on my web-email interface, unfortunately, but it works from Outlook Express at home. Yes, I use Outlook Express. This probably downgrades me a point; I've just never *bothered* to replace it, and I use my email system as an archive of sorts at home.)
I use Outlook Express to manage my Hotmail, because I subscribe to too many fucking mailing lists to put them all in one, and I refuse to give them up just because I don't have POP mail anymore. Thus, 9 Hotmail accounts.
I get enough spam to justify OE. I open it up, stop it before it downloads all the shit, and then clear it out, seeing if there's any real mail in the lot. Then I download that.
How could we compare to Linus? If that is what 10 is, then for a mortal to specify it as their abilities would be hubris beyond all but GW Bush and all his vile works.
If someone actually did say 10, then I would be greatly amused and pimp their journal as the journal of Linus Torvalds, 'cause they said so on my poll.

Some weirdos like to read back entries and comment there, so I like leaving mine on.

As for my geekiness, I'm pretty damn geeky (an 8, and when I get my Ph.D, I'll vote 9). I don't rate a 10, though. :)
Re: text only
No one has rated themselves a ten as yet. I am amused.
Re: text only
OB on topic: Text only as I use pine and lynx...

I'm not at that level of geekiness just yet. :)

I have no problems, so I enjoy usericons and the lot.
I gave a 10, because although probably not that knowledgeable, I am some d4amn3d 1337 and hella geeky
