I must be insane or something.

I made... sushi.

Again.

I must be insane.

It's going to be good, though. Even though I made a little more than last time.

Did I mention that I love sushi?

groan....

I used to practically live at a sushi bar back in Indy, had made really good friends with the guy behind the counter. Lost so much weight during that time too...

then we had to move to the wilds of upstate new york where there is nothing but Italian food and diners. :( No sushi, no mexican...SCREAM!!!!!!!!! I want some sushi so bad, and I can't even get the ingredients to make it myself. :( I want shiro maguro! I want barbequed eel! I want sundried octupus salad! I want edamame!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

damnit.

Dagu managed to somehow get me to try pretty much everything. We quickly learned extremely slimy doesn't fly with me, like raw baby octopus or jellyfish, but I got to where I liked just about everything else. (well, there were a couple types of fish I could eat but definitely weren't my preference.)

I can't wait to go back home to visit, I'm going to hit up the oriental marts and buy nori, a big bag of sushi rice (you can only find small quantities here and it's expensive, which is stupid) rice vinegar, etc....I know where to get the shiro maguro, but not sure how I would get it back home, I'd have to freeze it...(that's white or escolar tuna in English)

I can get the bbq eel in tins, like sardines, as well as the sun dried octopus...edamame and fresh seaweed salad I probably couldn't do though. Sigh...Maybe I'll just kidnap Dagu and make him open a restuarant here!

did you try lox (smoked salmon) or the straight out regualar raw? Most people, even if they don't take to other sushi, like the salmon and the different times of tuna...especially maguro and shiro maguro. Shiro maguro is like butter, it has a texture that literally melts in your mouth...and if you have a good sushi chef who uses top quality cuts and keeps it fresh and at the right temperature the taste isn't at all what you expect!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Keep expirementing, japanese food is really incredible!

sushi rice is fantastic if it's made right..a little sweet and a little tangy, and it's actually pretty easy to make. We've got a couple of chinese restaurants around here, but the only one that was really any good closed a couple weeks ago :( BUMMER!

The Thai restaurants here (I like Thai food too, have you tried it?) also do sushi, though not as well as Dagu back in Indy did. I've only been able to go to them a couple of times and have sushi and thai food together, but ummm...it's good. The thai iced tea is orgasmic!!!!!!!!!! I think they use a ceylon or assam tea base, with spices similiar to chai but they add anise and vanilla, lots of vanilla, into it. It is really really good, doesn't need any sweetener at all, and I am a sweet tea drinker.
