...and so I wait until it is so bad that a family meeting must be called, regardless of convenience, and then it is my fault for waiting so long and not calling one immediately.

My best friend does the same kind of thing, and it is VERY frustrating. He is conflict averse, so he'll do his best to avoid confronting any issues for as long as possible - until things are bad enough that he HAS to confront them, or they just confront him.

I've seen him lose jobs because of this, completely and totally destroy his credit (not being able to pay bills, and instead of contacting the creditors and trying to work something out, avoiding them until they get collection agencies involved, etc), messing up friendships, etc.

I wish I knew how to make him stop doing that to himself - he ends up increasing his own suffering, and that of those who care about him.
