Allow me to exhibit polite uncertainty that said asshats are communing with anything more divine than their own inner feelings of hatred and uncertain sexuality.
I still find it amusing to picture some fucked up deity somewhere going 'Why do /I/ get all the idiots?!' while its followers have to ask the police how to set fire to a flag.
I think that all the deities are, on some level, doing that. I imagine the God of the Christians looking at the Lord & Lady and playing "Let's see who's got the biggest idiots".
One of the catchphrases around here when we're getting too silly is a Buffy reference -- "Hey, I know! Let's have a bake sale!" someone says if we get too far off-topic.
At least the 'wanna-blessed-bes' are fairly harmless. They might be obnoxious, but at least they don't go around inciting violence against other groups, or smashing up planned parenthood clinics, or whatever.
But then, this whole neo-Pagan thingy is relatively new. Perhaps after a few hundred - or a couple of thousand - years we'll have our very own groups violent, twisted, fucked-up extremists. Won't that be fun?
Um, I know of a case where someone (pagan) beat someone else (not pagan) with an umbrella (religion unknown) for the mere making of an insensitive comment.
So it's already starting. (Yes, they got royally chewed out by me. No, they're never, EVER going to do it again, or *I* beat their ass, either metaphorically or literally. They're very sorry.)
Yes... but what I was really meaning was organised groups which, in the name of the religion, spread hate, fear, and try to (directly or indirectly) incite violence.
Every religion gets its violent people and arseholes, I expect. I was talking about /organised arseholes/.
"I don't hate god, I just despise his followers", as the saying goes....
Everyone, somewhere, has some class of bigotry going on in thier head. Some bigotry is good, like... hating chld rapists, hating mass murderers, hating lawyers...(just kidding, threw that one in to see if you were awake) I guess my bigotry is reserved for hating those who hate. I hate the KKK, I hate the people who spit out Louis Ferrakhans bile, I hate nazis, I hate uptight- gotta -dictate- it -ALL- to- you -the- way -*I* -interprete -it christians, and the ditto-all-that muslims, and ditto- all -that other eastern philosophies, sigh...but you know, I think those are healthy hates. It's not I want them to all drop dead, I hate their ATTITUDES..and if a hate of these ATTITUDES could be spread...I think the world would be better off.
yeah, I do too...because there actually are a number of them out there who really wonderful people.
It baffles me when someone who is of an "alternative" religion has that complete and total hate of "christian/jew/muslim/buddhist/whatever" because one of the things that drives most of us to seek other paths is that same complete hate by one of the above named religions. Again, it's a matter of hating a particular attitude, and not the person or group in total.
"...filthy manner of life.." Come again? *sigh* That god must be alot more tolerant than the literature makes him out to be. If people went around committing just rampant acts of stupidity, and claimed they were doing it in _your name_, wouldn't you be just a little pissed? They don't even get the irony of wanting to malign an entire nation, persecute a subculture and set fire to things in the name of 'decency'. (reminds me of a sign displayed during a protest of a KKK rally once.."No Free Speech for Facists". Think about that one for a minute)
Yep, I'd be pissed. Or amused. I'm not sure which.
*sigh* What ever happened to the good, old-fashioned sentiment of, "I disagree with every moronic word you say, but I will defend with my life your right to say them"? That's a sentiment I hold with, with the corresponding "and I can just as loudly disagree with the things you say too, and you'd better abide by my right to say them too".

Generally, I find that nature doesn't look fondly on idiots. It tends to thwap them with something heavy, and hopefully remove them from the genepool.

Yeah. We're kind of lacking on that front, and I hope it's a looooong time before anything of the like springs up.
