I have a "psychic psycho-sense". [personal profile] wibbble got curious.

Do you do 'threat assessments' of people you meet? A poll.

When I encounter someone, we look at them quickly to see if they're likely to be a danger to us. (City. Female. You do the math.) It's an automatic thing. Are they "creepy"? Are they carrying? Could I take them? Could they outrun me? Could I shout for help? Would I do something to provoke them?

Sometimes, if there's someone we're going to be interacting with more in-depth, we do more. We judge their physical state, their mental state, and we probe their ports, so to speak. That's not automatic with everyone. If there's someone joining the crew, I do a threat assessment on them. If someone asks me. If I have doubts about someone that aren't cleared up by the automatic assessment. If they're interacting with our baby. If they're interacting with our beloved. If they're interacting with our Pretty. If they're interacting with our sisters (biological and not). It's not always imperative under those circumstances, but it's far more likely...

's an interesting thing.

City. Female. You do the math.

Semi-rural. Male. Don't think I really even thought about this before. Your entry made me pause for a minute to think about all the biases and imbalances in our society that I appear to be blind to.

Now I'm all athink. It's totally your fault.

Hm. See, I started doing this not because I'm a female or living in a city, but because I was...well, fighting the not-so-nice guys on a semi-regular basis, and it didn't always stay limited to the paranormal realm. And I didn't know who they all were. So anybody could be following me.

Yeah, paranoid way to live. But necessary. I got jumped more than once. I've only recently started talking about it to people...I used to assume that it would get me locked up in a crazy bin if I told people what was really going on.

Eh. Just don't live in a town with active Satanists of the bad, people-sacrificing kind. The ones down here in Dallas are the good, religious, humanistic kind, who don't bother anybody. The only blood magic I've known them to do involves their own -- they believe that a sacrifice isn't worth anything if it's not their *own* sacrifice. The ones in KC...well, anybody sensitive who goes to KC will tell you there's a nasty miasma over the town. It's a bad place to be. Bad. Not a good place for a teenage guardian with no training, flying by the seat of her pants.
