Triggers

When someone triggers something, sometimes it's not so much a matter of pulling the trigger, it's a matter of smoking somewhere, and having some sparks fall on an exposed fuse that's leading to a couple tons of TNT that are buried right under your feet.

Sometimes they knew it was there and were smoking there anyway. Sometimes there was just a large "No Smoking" sign posted. Sometimes there wasn't anything, and they just decided to light up. Sometimes, and the person whose bomb it was really should get their ass kicked for this, there was a bench and an ashtray there.

A (quick - being pressed for time by my mother) glance at that post makes me think of the email from Melody I was reading out to E on the phone.

I was going out to the pub with some friends. She freaked, because of all the evil things that alcohol was responsible for. She went so faras to log off of Century and make me email her.

IIRC, it was the first time I stood up to her tantrums. IIRC, it was the start of the end.

It's a scary step, standing up to someone. Glad you survived.

Some people IRL, who didn't really know me that well, were really quite surprised that /I/ was the one to end things with Melody.

Melody, much later, was herself surprised that I asked someone out.

Looking back, that might've been a key moment. Interesting. I should dig out those logs...

It's that hidden decisiveness that makes me so certain that you are capable of functioning as Warrior at need.

You can kick ass when the time comes because you know how to judge when a thing is a problem, and take steps to make it not so.
