No. Just... no.
So I'm reading my networking book, and you know it's late at night, because suddenly I get this brilliant idea: a drink. Not just any drink. A seven-layer OSI model network drink.
The eventual vote of the committee was thus: peach schnapps, dark creme de cacao, ninety-nine blackberries, tequila, strawberry schapps, plum wine, apple schnapps, to form the Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, and Application layers of the drink.
azurelunatic (11:20:36 PM): I have just had a really bad idea.
sithjawa (11:20:39 PM): oh?
azurelunatic (11:21:18 PM): I need names of alcohol starting with the letters P, D, N, T, S, P, and A.
azurelunatic (11:21:33 PM): For a seven-layered OSI drink.
sithjawa (11:21:42 PM): Kill me now.
azurelunatic (11:30:13 PM): Peppermint schnapps, Dark creme de cacao, Nassau orange, Tequila, Strawberry schnapps, Peach schnapps, Almond amarretto
sithjawa(11:30:25 PM): NO DRINK
sithjawa (11:30:27 PM): is EVER
azurelunatic (11:30:40 PM): Never?
sithjawa (11:30:43 PM): allowed to contain peppermint, peach, and amaretto all together.
sithjawa (11:30:44 PM): EVER.
sithjawa (11:30:55 PM): ESPECIALLY not with tequila.
azurelunatic (11:30:59 PM): but... is OSI model drink!
sithjawa (11:31:39 PM): *gag*
sithjawa (11:31:45 PM): And *still* kill me now :D
azurelunatic (11:32:06 PM): Fine. *huff* YOU find alcohol that tastes good together starting with those letters.
sithjawa (11:32:10 PM): *ggl*

The only one listed by name on the gravity chart at Webtender is dark creme de cacao, which is 1.14. The only schnapps listed on the chart is peppermint, which is 1.04. Peach liquer is listed at 1.04, but apricot liquer at 1.09, and strawberry liquer is 1.12.

So, ideally, by the end of drinking the OSI model drink, it would be all blended around anyway.

Layers
And stuff does most definitely blend. There is no such thing as a pure Layer 2 or pure Layer 3 switch any more. Feature creep. Lurks all over, creeps all over, doesn't clean up when it's done...
Re: Layers
(Digressing on the "feature creep" thing a bit...)
My OO Analysis class had a final where we role-played a developer/client session (I think using Extreme Programming), and I got to growl, "Feature creep" under my breath at one of my
opponentsclassmates. We were drawing a picture rather than developing an application, but the clients were passing us written specs and we were giving them time estimates and drawing up prototypes. I discouraged the customers from asking that one particular feature be included by giving it a particularly off-putting name ("the 36-inch strap-on"). One of them complained to the teacher about my doing that; his comment was, "Welcome to the real world." Developers evidently intimidate customers all the time...Re: Layers
Re: Layers
This teacher is the one who told us the cheerful little story about what happened when he looked at some specs for a proposed project, and said, "You've got to be kidding. This is impossible!" and the higher-up said, "Can't be. It's in the contract."
Re: Layers
Even worse is when senators want to make legislation. They required a piece of software that was insane. Not possible. But if they made it law...
It was supposed to be a new digital protocol to solve All Issues With Media and Copyright at the same time.
Re: Layers
Y'know, maybe the government model in Cyteen isn't so bad after all.

Re: Layers
An important part of this system would be privacy and anonymity, possible using public/private key cryptography.
