Testing, testing...

We had a test in Sandstrom's class. Mr. Potter (yes, the late Mr. Potter himself) was lecturing next door. Now, for those of us who haven't met Potter yet, he is one of the single loudest teachers I've ever met. He said that some of his engineering students were huddled around something and snickering one day, and it turned out to be a decibel meter. He clocked in at 94 db. (That's loud.)

So. Test in one room. Potter right next door. You'd better believe there was giggling when Potter started making sound effects... Sandstrom mimed a kick at the wall, to much hilarity.

Ouch. 94 dB is, indeed pretty loud. Extraordinarily so, in fact. Wow. Time for earplugs in that class - maybe even in the next door class, *grin*.

votania and I sat way in the back when Potter was lecturing. We never had any problem hearing him, and were just out of range of hearing damage.

Better than a lecturer who talks too quietly, and when people in the middle of the lecture hall say they can't hear, he berates them for 'sitting up the back'.

Myself, I sit down the front. At the time, it was the only way I could read the slides! (And then it became habit.)

There was one girl in my psychology class who collared me after a tutorial and weended up spending two hours talking.

She said she'd noticed me in lectures, sitting off to one side. This got her attention, apparently, as someone worth talking to later.

That's at least half the fun, though, isn't it? ;o)

Only works when you're there with people you know, of course.

Well, you see, I get to know the teacher pretty well in many cases...

So when Prof. Bird was talking about something regarding diversity of population on islands, commenting that if two equal-size islands were different distances from the mainland, the closer island would have a more diverse population, and if two different-sized islands were equidistant from the mainland, the larger island's population would be more diverse, I just had to comment. "So, you're saying size does matter?" I asked.

I'm becoming known for being a wiseass.

I don't think I could get away with that in most lectures. At least now - I don't know /any/ lecturers. :o)
