votania's family birthday party is tomorrow (well, technically, today) and I'm preparing.

We always prepare for these things as if for battle, and this time's no different. I'll be wearing good pants and a fancy top. I normally don't go much for jewelry other than the usual, but I'll be wearing two stone chip necklaces -- the one with the black stones that's Marah's, and the one with the little garnet pebbles that's for garnetdagger. (That's generally an unsafe combo, guys.) I'm also bringing plenty of water, for the car trip.

Naomi's to stay far under, for this one, unless the remaining geek uncle shows.

Tomorrow morning, we probably need to give Little Fayoumis the role model lecture: "Even though you think your cousins are cool, it is bad for you to act like them. Even though they are cool to you, sometimes the way they act is mean and grabby. We know you are a good kid, and we do not want you to start doing bad things. So even though you think your cousins are cool, and you see them doing stuff, and you see them doing stuff that you know you are not allowed to do, and getting away with it, do not do that. Act like Mommy or me or Marx instead."

garnetdagger is the warrior and the defender. She kicks ass and takes names.

Marah is the one who's already bitter and broken. She can take any shit that anyone deals out, and spits it back. She's not the one you want to have out if you want to be friendly to someone who may be being a dick. If, however, you want to be just as much of a dick back, she's your girl.

It's no problem if she's around nice people. Then, she's a happy normal teenager, if a little angsty.

votania's family has earned all of Marah's venom. garnetdagger will mostly be around to keep Marah in check, to judge whether or not it's prudent to launch an offensive.

If Darkside's being Mr. Tactless, and Marah's out with Dagger, they may accidentally say something too mean, especially because of its truth. It's not a combination that I want to have aimed at anyone I want to stay friends with, especially if they've done wrong to me or mine in the past.

And even though Darkside's my beloved and my best friend, he's still said and done some pretty tactless and hurtful things, and Marah remembers quite a few of them, and Dagger knows where Darkside's weak points are. And Dagger doesn't do a very good job of containing Marah when she's mad, just guiding her.
