rosalynde writing in her journal. I love a character who keeps a journal. You can elide the boring parts that way, and the bits that, while necessary for continuity, don't add to the story. You let her tell the audience directly in her journal, thus skirting the edge of the "show, don't tell" convention, by showing her journal, which tells the bits that don't make for good story.
