The Bastard reminds me of Mark. And not just because of the face he was borrowing. And, I just loved that line of his about rats and trickery...the flirting just about killed me.
Yes -- it's the courtly, ruthless practicality. Miles does stuff, and regrets it later. Mark, and the Bastard, calculate what needs to be done to get the job done, and don't regret it.
