Currently in my closet, because I haven't been in it for almost ... wow. A long time...

... yarn, fabric, papers, books, computer parts, rather a lot of booze, far more black clothes than one might think one college student could/should wear, and most likely one small grey diluted tortoiseshell cat.

The expression "diluted cat" sounds terribly wrong to me, whose Native is not English.

Oh! it refers to the tortoiseshell coloring, not the cat... Now it makes sense.
