Accomplishments (When Papier Mache goes Wild)

Unloaded the dishwasher. Put some candles away; lit some others. Sorted the candle drawer, a little. That's rather a lot of wax.

Rescued a mostly-dead roll of paper towels from Eris, who had made it completely dead, all over the floor. Shook it at her and said "No!" She meowed at me. She has yet to imitate [livejournal.com profile] shammash's "Did I do something?" meep. I don't think I could take that from two cats at once.

Discovered that oil was the correct solvent to remove melted balloon from the baking tray. Yay, me. I'm leaving it to soak, because some of it is caked on fairly well.

We give the boys toilet paper or tissues to make nests out of. At the moment, they have built tents out of the paper so they never have to stick their noses out up above the surface (although they do come out and sit on top of the nearly-gnawed-to-nothing straw nesting tube to wash their faces and do their nightly jump-around-in-a-circle thing, which is kind of like a horizontal somersault. I can tell Bryan is going to be a strict daddy -- he is always yelling at the boys for the mess they make of "their room". I laugh and tell him that if they want to move the furniture around, they are allowed to. Yup, that's right, I'm the Marshmallow Mommy.

It is really cute, though. If we forget to change their cage, they will come up to us and wave pieces of the paper at us: "C'mon already, mommy -- the whole cage smells like my stinky brother!"

Congrats on the baking tray, by the way. [I'm not gonna ask how it got that way!]

My boys are mice. Mikki could probably be termed 'silky'. He has ears that are huge in comparison to his head and stick out in classic cartoon mouse fashion, although he is named after an Utena character, as opposed to the Disney character. Saionji has the agouti coloring and body structure of a wild mouse, although I would say more of the European variety than the American -- the face is a little different (not that I have seen that many of the American variety up-close-and-personal, he just looks more like the pictures I have seen on postcards. And both of them wash their faces (etc.) more often than cats do. And they are the only boy mice I have seen that will check their brother's ears to make sure that they have been washed enough. I am surprised that they do not seem to fight at all, although Mikki has a happy chirping noise he makes that I at first mistook for fight squeals. The only time they have ever gotten into a scrap was when Mikki snatched a sunflower seed that Saionji had just finished peeling right out of his brother's mouth. Saionji boxed his ears for him good, and Mikki just sat there with this "I was only JOKING!" look on his face. Considering how good-natured his brother is, I can understand how he could act surprised, ... but he definitely had it coming, the little brat!

All the more reason why I find them amusing. Besides, they are behind kitty-safe plastic (yeah, right). Seriously, though, what I like about mice is that they are so anthropomorphic -- they eat with their hands, they groom themselves constantly, AND they talk. [Quite a lot, in Mikki's case!]
