Because your imagination knows you well enough to know exactly where to hit you. It cheats. If it works like mine, it's also well-hooked-in to your emotions, so it can just lean on the ouch lever to add weight to what it says.

I kept repeating Ekaterin's remark about imagination, and very real blood pressure, to myself yesterday.
