Unpopular Opinions.
1. American Thanksgiving is overrated. I will not die of loneliness if I don't get to have a big-ass celebration with all my loved ones or just anybody. It's certainly less of a big deal than, say, my birthday. Which my best friend never remembers anyway.
2. Abortion. Yes, it's surely a sin, but it should be legal. Free will, enough nasty cases that warrant exemptions, ... and ... if a would-be mother would willingly do that to a child, do you really want them raising the child? When all the children who need a loving family are adopted and there are still families wanting children, then we'll talk about adoption. As a firm believer in reincarnation, I am quite satisfied by what to me is the certain knowledge that anyone who voluntarily has or causes an abortion experiences the other end of it at least ten times over.
3. Spanking. Any punishment that causes a need for doctor's visits, or even residual pain fifteen minutes later is right out. No arguments there. But I believe that small, well-timed applications of pain to reinforce the idea that this action or inaction carries negative consequences with it is an idea that holds merit.
You deliberately disobey in a way that could have caused you serious harm had we not been alert and attentive? Your ass will not be thanking you for the duration of the spanking, and you will learn to respect that disobedience means pain until you are old enough to grasp that disobedience in those areas could have meant bodily harm or death.
Little Fayoumis is almost too old to spank, in my book, as he's old enough to understand things when they're explained to him.
4. Christianity. The religion isn't inherently evil. It isn't inherently good either. As with any belief system, cognitive tool, or organization, its reputation is only as good as the sum reputation of those known to be affiliated with it. Over the years, it's collected some good ideas, some bad ones, done great evil in the name of doing great good, and done many small and invisible acts of good in the name of faith. People are people.
5. Wicca. See above commentary. It's a younger religion, as organized, and there are all sorts of people affiliated with it. Right now it seems to be on the "Now that we're popular, the flakes are as notable as dandruff on raven-black hair!" swing of the pendulum.
6. Polyamory. Some people can make it work, some can't. Even though I identify as polyamorous, I want a relatively small and stable household, probably of ten or fewer permanent members.
7. Trust. I can't do very much ritual work with strangers, because I don't hold the opinion that the friends of my friends are automatically worthy of my openhearted love and trust. Some will prove themselves to be, and some won't. I refuse to open my heart to someone who proclaims, for completely random example, someone who proclaims "towelheads" to be less than human, and incapable of proper family feeling.
8. Family loyalty. I don't see why anyone would bind themselves to a family that isn't working, even though doing so may be the only thing keeping the family sane/together. Doing so for the sake of children, if the children's lives are truly improved, or if the children cannot be removed from fucked-up guardians, I could see. Doing so for the sake of adults perfectly capable of taking care of themselves? That I can't see.
9. (inspired by my inbox) "Cum" is not tasty, generally speaking. Further, I consider that spelling wrong and bad. No discussion on the spelling is liable to sway me, though I may be amused by pathetic attempts. I consider it less intelligent than the spelling of magic as "magick" by leaps and bounds.
10. There is only so much musical whining I can take, and I have passed that limit as of about twenty minutes ago. I don't care if the singer is female, or if they're male and angst-ridden. Any tone of voice/music combination suggesting that the singer is waiting until the end of the recording session to off themselves, even if the lyrics are upbeat, especially if the lyrics are upbeat, and especially especially if the tone sounds like a put-on, I'm likely to change the channel, or fret and bitch (and/or mock) if avoidance is impossible.
Votania dear, this includes KUPD, as the style in Badass Rock has turned to the moaning, and if it's moaning, I don't want to hear it, and I just switched to the soft rock/jazz station over KUPD because of the moaning. And the 30-minute commercial break before the moaning.
