No, it's one of those He Really Is That Clueless, Isn't He things.

He's got a wacked sense of humor, and he's used to being the only one who thinks some things are funny.

On this "joke", he thinks it's funny, and I turn to stone as effectively as Ekaterin. Since I usually only request a hug when it's time for him to leave, and that's when he makes the joke, he doesn't note the transformation.
