So, thinking about wolfpack terminology.

If you train a kid that she's supposed to be an Alpha -- and then put her in a situation where she's the outsider -- she may well wind up Omega, or may dissociate herself from the pack and make herself a loner.

Dangerous situations, there.

So we'll have to train kids in how to gracefully be a Beta, if they can't be Alpha, if you want them to not split off from the pack.

Ooooh, you know, I think you've just hit on why my sisters and I get along better at a *distance*. 3 out of 4 of us are undeniably Alpha bitches. Our mother raised us that way. I get along with the other 2 very, very well, as long as I don't live anywhere near them. :) The non-Alpha confuses the hell out of me, though she is the one that's the most social with the other two.

That makes quite a bit of sense. swallowtayle is an alpha bitch, Mama's a beta, FatherSir's ... I'm not sure what. I think he and I are potentially alphas, but we don't step forward to lead if someone else is leading right.
