Progress

It's a sign of progress that I don't race to answer the phone when it rings.
It's a sign of progress that missing a phone call, and no message left, doesn't panic me.

One of these days, I'll get so the phone won't wake me up if I'm in a sleep cycle. And that will be a sign of progress too.

I have a Rule, whereby I never, under any circumstances, will get out of bed to answer a landline.

Few people have my cellphone number, so I'll answer that. Maybe. If it's easy to get at.

Picture me at 16.
Picture a best friend in another state and suicidal.
Picture me not knowing what the hell is going on.
Picture him calling at odd hours, when I'm asleep, and not leaving any form of coherent message.
