I don't think I could settle for someone significantly non-smarter than I am. Ideally, a person I'm in a relationship with would be smarter, and cheerily educating me as well; in practice, I don't mind if I'm better at some things than they are as long as they're better at some things than I am.

Yeah, that's my criteria as well. I won't mind blonde, blue-eyed, tall, thin and funny, but smarter than me is what's really important.

Of course, that means I rule out some 99% in the first screening.

Well, Sturgeon's Law. 90% of everything is crud; the remaining 9% aren't crud, but aren't ideal either.

I agree with you totally. However, I have found that at least with girls, it is very VERY difficult to find any who meet that criteria based solely on the fact that for women it seems to be cosidered a bad thing to be intelligent, so even if they are, they won't show it.

One of the classic pickup scenarios is the "Hi, could you please help me?" one. I would far rather try to pick up a guy with "I'm getting an error I've never seen before. Google isn't being helpful. Do you know what it is?" than "Oooh, math is hard."
