I don't know if I still have it - I hope I do - but for my sociology class last year we had most of 'Being sane in insane places' as set text.

I'd need to check details, but I think that's the paper that resulted from Rosenhan's experiment.

Interesting, and it's something I've seen here, too.

In the UK it's actually fairly uncommon to get a referral to a psychiatrist - usually your GP deals with you. there's a huge number of people who are diagnosed with 'depression', and put on medication, when it's not always appropriate for them.

Reading stuff like that makes me want to go to lectures and get this degree.
