Virtual hug request...

Virtual hug request for my friend. I'm not sure how he'd react to me hitting up my friends list for virtual hugs for him specifically, but he did say that he was in bad, bad need of hugs from anyone who was willing to offer them, soo...

Short story: He was working when the Guy in the Mask came in, and had to empty the cash drawer under threat of presumed weapon. He diverted the robber's attention from his co-worker by keeping eye contact. The guy left, and he was able to call 911.

He's understandably in shock right now, and needs hugs. The company will be supplying counseling. Any virtual hugs, good energy, et cetera, that can be spared, would be appreciated.

Post-traumatic stress is the worst, especially when we think we should have been stressed more during the trauma itself, and aren't expecting the aftereffects...

Hugs for your friend. And tell him that his reaction is very normal, during the event the best way to react is the way he did, stay very focused and collected. And then, when the bad guy is gone, the reaction sets in.

And I'm cool and collected in the moment, because that's when it really matters to be calm. It's a very high level of focus.

Oh, heavens, that's awful. Hugs are en route, and pass along to your friend that he handled it exceedingly well, and the stress that's setting in now is normal.

Thanks a lot, guys, I need this. There was...major...stuff going down last night. Suicidal thoughts kept jumping in again and again, and I just wish I had someone to actually hug me :-/ I'm doing a LOT better now, just a migrane at the moment. Probably won't be going away for a while, so I just have to wait it out.

It keeps playing through my mind, though. Not that I could have stopped the guy, or anything like that, but that I could have had my coworker hurt if the guy got pissed off enough. I really don't care if I'm hurt, or anything like that, but if Beth were hurt...*continues beating himself up*

So now I'm in the phase where I'm constantly beating myself up mentally, because of Beth. The way I figure, she probably hates me for putting her life in danger, and I don't blame her.

It was a judgement call. If you'd decided the other way, you might be beating yourself up now for putting her in danger as well. The only right answers are the ones that get everybody out intact. Um. I'd quote you Vorkosigan on that, but I don't have the quote to hand, but it's basically that there are some refinements that someone might think of afterwards, or someone who wasn't there might think of, but if it worked, it worked, thank gods.
