Fire as humor

[livejournal.com profile] alphafenris, your choice of "That guy who set that thing on fire that time" as your name has me grinning or laughing every time. (Well, OK, usually smirking or grinning, but with the mood I'm in, that practically equals a laugh.)

Why?

I suppose because in certain contexts, fire is funny. Not when it's massively out of control, nor when it's burning something precious, but when fire is combined with a certain type of male in a certain context -- the sort of context where "the guy who [did that thing] that time" is usually applied -- it's freakin' hilarious (usually until someone gets hurt, and then it's time for the Darwin Awards).

Tee hee,

I think using that phrase as my name is appropriate since:

  • I set a school record in college for setting my chemistry experiment on fire (it was *not* supposed to burst into flames) three times in one lab
  • I set my sheets on fire in a microwave, once
  • I burned off half the hair on the back of my right hand when I "volunteered" to hold the lighter for a professional regurgitator that was blowing a soap bubble full of butane
  • When I was playing in LARPs I set many, many things on fire
  • In high school, since we had to wait at least an hour until I bus to stop so that we could get on, I led a movement amongs the kids who would be waiting there to build our own barbeque and snack before we got on the bus . . . nobody died
  • I don't think I'm allowed to tell any of my 4th of July stories

Glad you liked the name choice!
