Kid/Adult Translations

This morning just now, I introduced the Little Fayoumis to the polite, adult translation for "Booooo-ring!", which is, "I don't find that very interesting."

It's really the same thing, although one of them sounds ever so much more adult.

Actually, the reason one is more adult than the other is that "boring" is a judgment on what is being said. The other is simply a statement of personal preference. Which is what makes the first insulting, and the second not. When Chris goes on and on about the details of why he wants one guitar over another...it's not boring in and of itself. Any other guitar player would find it fascinating. I, personally, get uninterested in it after a short while. See the difference? :)

I've always liked the phrase "or, we could do something fun."

Not exactly PC, but certainly more clever than "Booooo-ring!"

He didn't like it because it was only toys and TV with none of that educational schoolwork?

Weird kid.

Did I ever tell you that I complained about not having any homework when I was little, because when we got home from school, all my friends and sisters had homework to do, and no one would play with me. So I wanted homework, too! Except that I got all my schoolwork done at school, so I never had any homework leftover.

My principal gave me a workbook on mythology. I got about halfway through it before I quit doing the work part and just read the stories. :) But still, it gave me something to *do* while everybody else was doing homework. Mrs. Nichols *rocked*.
